Acid Foil
Product Features
Visual Effect: Creates a textured, vintage, or marbleized metallic appearance through selective foil adhesion that exposes the natural leather grain or suede underneath.
Mechanism: Utilizes pre-patterned release layers or a reactive/distressed adhesive binder (such as textured screen-printed layouts) applied to the leather before hot lamination.
Substrate Compatibility: Suitable for suede, split leather, full-grain leather, and PU/PVC synthetic substrates.
Key Advantage: Engineered for high-speed roll-to-roll or hide processing with exceptional flexing endurance.
Technical Specifications
Transfer Method: Heat press / Calender lamination (110℃-140℃)
Carrier Base: PET Film (12μm-19μm)
Application Process (Hot Lamination)
Substrate & Adhesive Preparation: Apply a polyurethane (PU) or acrylic foil-bonding adhesive over the leather surface using a spray system or roller coater. For acid-wash effects, use a textured/distressed screen-printed adhesive layout.
Heat & Pressure Lamination: Feed the leather and acid foil through a continuous flatbed heat press or rotary calender roller system (Temperature: 120 –140℃ , Pressure: 3-5 bar, Speed: 5-12m/min)
Cold Peel & Carrier Stripping: Allow the laminated hide to cool completely to ensure a strong chemical bond between the adhesive and the metallic layer, then peel away the PET carrier film.
Protective Topcoat Application: Spray a clear protective topcoat (nitrocellulose or waterborne polyurethane) over the foiled surface to maximize rub resistance, water resistance, and flexing fastness.
Primary Applications: Footwear uppers, fashion jackets, belts, handbags, and rustic leather goods.
